On the right you can see how the sizes will look depending on the Icon Size
setting in the Appearance menu. People usually do not set the icon size to 24. As mentioned above, it's
usually the operating system that selects this size as a kind of thumbnail display (i.e., in a links bar).
A 16-pixel format wasen't really necessary for this set. At that size, too many of the distinguishing
features of each image become disolved so it was not worth it for me to process this extra format into
the icons. For this MLB icon set, even the 24-pixel version was pushing the limits of recognizability of
many team logos. The one for the Toronto Blue Jays works well down to 24 but the Baltimore Orioles icon
starts to become too muddled at 32 even with some sharpening, and very oblong logos like "Tampa Bay Devil
Rays" also become indistinct at 24 pixels. When the 16-pixel format is called for, as when you choose the
List or Detail view settings, the operating system will automatically take the 24-pixel version and shrink
it to 16.
You can download one of these icons (Toronto Blue Jays) as a free sample to test on your computer.
